Privacy Policy
Eyezo ("we", "us") is an eye-care and digital-wellbeing app developed by Shanu Tyagi. This policy explains exactly what data the app handles, what stays on your device, what reaches our servers, and what is shared with third parties. We wrote it to match our Google Play Data safety declarations.
1. The short version
- Your per-app screen-time details and the list of apps on your device stay on your device. We never upload them.
- Eyezo requires an account to use. We collect your email, and your name if you provide one.
- For linked child accounts, daily wellbeing summaries (break counts, compliance, streak — not per-app details) are shared with the linked parent. That is the product.
- The free version shows ads (Google AdMob); the ad SDK shares device identifiers and ad-interaction data with Google. Premium users and linked children see no ads at all.
- We never collect your location, contacts, photos, messages, files, camera, microphone or health records.
- You can delete your account — and all server-side data — inside the app at any time.
2. Data that stays on your device
- Per-app usage time (read through the Usage Access permission you grant) — processed on-device to enforce your app limits and show your stats.
- The list of installed apps — read on-device so you can choose which apps to limit. Never uploaded.
- Eye Care Score history, break timer state, individual break events and timestamps, settings, themes, points balance.
Individual break events are kept on your device for 30 days and then deleted automatically. We do not record which app you were using when a break was triggered.
3. Data we collect on our servers
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email address, account ID | On sign-up (an account is required) | Sign-in, account management, replying to your feedback |
| Subscription state (plan, billing cycle, start and expiry dates, Google Play purchase token) | If you subscribe | Unlocking premium; family-plan seats |
| Daily wellbeing summaries (breaks taken/skipped, compliance %, streak, total screen-time) and supervision events | Only for accounts linked as a child in Parental Control | Shown to the linked parent — the core of Parental Control |
| Feedback text, feedback type, optional rating, app version, device model | Only if you submit feedback | Reading and acting on your feedback |
| Parental-control PIN (stored hashed) and link records | If you set up Parental Control | Authorising sensitive changes on a child device |
| Poll votes, message read-state, promo impressions | If you use those features | App functionality |
| Device model, OS version, app version | Automatically | Compatibility and diagnostics |
| Push token | Automatically | Delivering notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging) |
| Crash logs and diagnostics | Automatically | Stability (Firebase Crashlytics) |
We never see or store your payment details. Google Play processes all payments.
4. Advertising (free version only)
The free version shows a banner on the home screen and an occasional full-screen ad (at most one per 2 hours) before the statistics view, served by Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects and shares with Google: the device's advertising ID, ad interactions (views/taps), IP address, and diagnostics — used by Google for ad serving, measurement and fraud prevention. See Google's advertising privacy notice.
- Premium subscribers see no ads.
- Linked child accounts never see ads, even on the free tier.
- You can reset or opt out of your advertising ID in your device's Google settings.
We never use your eye-care data, screen-time data or any health-related information for advertising.
5. Parental Control — who sees what
When a child account is linked with a parent's invite code (with an explicit in-app disclosure the child must accept), the parent can see: the child's daily screen-time total, breaks taken and skipped, compliance rate, streak, the per-category daily limits the parent has set, limit-change requests, blocked attempts, and supervision events such as a device clock change.
The parent cannot see the child's messages, photos, browsing, location, per-app usage detail, or the content of what they do in apps.
While linked, Strict Mode stays on and only the parent can remove the link; the child can always sign out or delete their account. Parental-control data is never sold and never shared with third parties for advertising, and is permanently deleted when the link is removed or either account is deleted.
6. What we never collect
Location. Contacts. Camera or microphone. Photos, videos or audio. Messages or emails. Files. Calendar. Browsing history. Health or medical records. We also never sell personal data.
7. Permissions we request
- Usage Access — to read per-app screen time on-device, so limits and statistics work. Never uploaded.
- Display over other apps — to show the break overlay above whatever you are using. It appears only when a break is due.
- Notifications — break reminders, pre-break warnings and limit alerts. You can turn these off.
- All-apps visibility (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES) — to list your installed apps so you can choose which ones to limit. The list is read on-device and never uploaded.
- Exact alarms and battery-optimisation exemption (optional) — so reminders fire on time and the reminder service survives in the background. Both are explained in-app and can be declined; core reminders still work, though some phones may delay them.
- Foreground service — the break timer runs as a foreground service so Android does not kill it mid-session.
- Text-to-Speech — used only if you enable spoken break prompts. Speech is produced by Android's on-device TTS engine; we send no audio anywhere.
- Media control (AudioManager) — to lower or pause media during a break, if you enable that.
- Vibration — for haptic break cues.
8. Eye exercises, nutrition and language
- Eye exercises — 9 guided routines. Which exercises you do and when is stored on your device only.
- Nutrition — educational information about foods and nutrients relevant to eye health, based on claims reviewed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). This is reference content: we collect, log and upload nothing from this tab, and it is not dietary or medical advice.
- Language — Eyezo is available in 17 languages. Translations are built into the app — nothing is downloaded to switch language — and your language choice is stored on your device.
9. Third-party services
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics) — operates as our service provider. Firebase privacy
- Google AdMob — advertising on the free tier (see section 4). Google privacy policy
- Google Play Billing — processes all payments. We never see your card or UPI details.
10. Security, retention & deletion
All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, and authentication tokens are held in encrypted device storage. Server data is retained while your account exists. Settings → Account → Delete account permanently removes your account and associated server data; uninstalling the app removes all on-device data. On-device break events are deleted automatically after 30 days. You can also email us to request deletion.
11. Where your data is processed
Eyezo operates globally. Your account data may be processed and stored on servers outside your country of residence, including in the United States, where our hosting provider operates. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate data;
- delete your account and associated data (available in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account);
- export a copy of your data;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw consent where we rely on it — for example by turning off a permission, disabling notifications, or opting out of personalised ads.
To exercise any of these, email us at the address in section 14.
Legal bases (EEA/UK). We process your account and subscription data to perform our contract with you; crash and diagnostic data, and the ads on the free tier, on the basis of our legitimate interests in keeping the app stable and funding a free version; parental-control data on the basis of the parent's or guardian's instruction and consent.
Right to complain (EEA/UK). You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
13. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined by the CPRA. The advertising described in section 4 is served by Google AdMob using your device's advertising identifier; you can opt out in your device settings. To make a request, email us at the address in section 14.
14. Children
Eyezo is intended for users aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly. Where local law sets a higher minimum age for consenting to online services (up to 16 in some countries), users below that age need a parent's or guardian's consent.
Accounts linked as a child through Parental Control are expected to be operated with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian, who controls the link. Linked child accounts are completely excluded from advertising, and what a parent can see is limited to the summaries and supervision events described in section 5.
15. Changes & contact
We will update this page when our practices change and note the new effective date above. Significant changes will be announced in the app or by email.
