FAQ

Honest Answers,
No Fine Print

Everything people actually ask about Eyezo — eye health, permissions, premium, family and the occasional "why did my screen just dim?"

Eye Health & Breaks

The 20-20-20 rule, the break screen, and what it all does for your eyes.

Does the 20-20-20 rule actually work?

Yes — it's the standard advice ophthalmologists give for digital eye strain. Staring at a screen cuts your blink rate by up to 66% (drying your eyes) and keeps your focusing muscle clenched (causing blur and headaches). Looking at something ~20 feet away for 20 seconds relaxes that muscle and restores blinking.

The honest part: it only works if you actually do it — which nobody does from memory. That's the entire reason Eyezo exists: it automates the habit so your eyes get the break whether you remember or not.

Why did my screen just get dimmer?

That's Auto-Dim during rest — in the seconds before a break, Eyezo gently winds the brightness down as a cue, dims further while you rest, then smoothly restores your exact brightness as the countdown ends. It never touches your system brightness setting permanently.

Prefer constant brightness? Turn it off in Settings → Theme → Rest Comfort.

Can I skip a break?

Yes — unless Strict Mode is on, there's always a skip button. But skips are counted in your Eye Care Score, because a skipped break is rest your eyes didn't get. If you find yourself skipping constantly, try a gentler break mode (Notification or No-Interruption) instead of skipping the overlay — a reminder you tolerate beats a reminder you fight.

Will breaks interrupt my meetings or gaming?

Not if you tell Eyezo about them. No-Interruption mode stays completely silent and fires the break only when you leave the app. Premium users can assign it per category — silent on work tools, firm on social media. You can also pause protection briefly; it resumes on its own.

What's the ideal reminder interval?

20 minutes is the research default and where we recommend starting. Heavy reading or coding days can benefit from shorter intervals; casual use can go longer. Change it in Settings → Reminder Interval — the best rhythm is the one you'll actually keep.

Do the eye exercises replace seeing a doctor?

No. Eyezo helps prevent and relieve everyday digital eye strain — it is not a medical device and doesn't diagnose or treat eye disease. Persistent pain, sudden vision changes, flashes or floaters deserve a real ophthalmologist, promptly.

Setup, Permissions & Battery

What each permission is for, and what Eyezo costs your phone.

Why do I need an account?

Your settings, Eye Care Score, points and premium live on your account, so they survive reinstalls and phone changes — and family linking needs to know who the parent is. Sign-in takes one tap with Google. We ask for nothing beyond an email.

Which permissions does Eyezo need, and why?

Notifications (required) — break reminders can't reach you without it.

Display over other apps (recommended) — lets the full-screen break appear over whatever you're using.

Usage Access (recommended) — powers screen-time tracking, the Score and app limits. Measured on your device; your per-app usage is never uploaded.

That's it. No location, no contacts, no camera, no files.

Will Eyezo drain my battery?

No — it's engineered so the CPU sleeps whenever your screen does. The timer is alarm-based, not a constantly-running service. Typical impact is a rounding error next to your screen itself, which is always the real battery cost.

Breaks stopped appearing after a day or two. What happened?

Almost always your phone's battery "optimizer" killed Eyezo in the background — common on Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme and Samsung. Fix: allow Eyezo to run without battery restrictions (the app guides you there in Settings → Permissions), and don't swipe Eyezo away from recent apps on aggressive ROMs. After a reboot, Eyezo restarts itself with a fresh timer.

Premium, Trial & Billing

What's free, what's paid, and how the trial really works.

What stays free, forever?

The core eye protection: 20-20-20 break reminders with the smart overlay, Smart Mode, the auto-dim wind-down, Quick Rest and Blink Test, your daily Eye Care Score with 7-day trends, points and streaks, recap notifications, and the Ocean theme — in 18 languages. We will never put an ad or a paywall between you and your eye health.

What does Premium add?

Screen Guard app limits with categories and schedules, Strict Mode, per-category break modes, longer breaks (30/45s), all 9 guided exercises and the nutrition library, 30-day history, the Sanctuary theme and break-screen styles, and an ad-free experience. In short: free protects your eyes; Premium also reduces the screen time causing the strain, and trains your eyes back.

How does the free trial work? Will I be charged automatically?

New subscribers get a free trial when they subscribe. Google Play handles it: you'll see the exact trial length and price on the purchase sheet before confirming, Google reminds you before the trial ends, and yes — it converts to a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel. Cancel any time during the trial in the Play Store and you pay nothing.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Cancel: Play Store → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Eyezo → Cancel. You keep premium until the period ends; nothing renews after.

Refunds: handled by Google Play per their policy — recent purchases can be refunded directly from your Play order history. Stuck? Email us and we'll help: eyezo.app@gmail.com.

Why is the price different in my country?

We localize prices to purchasing power instead of converting one global price — so Eyezo costs a fair amount in India, Brazil, Indonesia or the US alike. Google Play always shows your exact local price before you pay.

I paid but premium isn't showing. What do I do?

Open the paywall and tap Restore Purchase — that re-checks your Google account's subscription. Make sure you're signed into the same Google account that paid. Still stuck after a minute and an app restart? Email eyezo.app@gmail.com with your order number and we'll sort it.

Family & Parental Controls

Protecting growing eyes — transparently.

What exactly can a parent see about a linked child?

Daily summaries — total screen time, breaks taken, breaks skipped — plus an activity feed of protection events (like tamper attempts). Parents cannot read messages, see screens, track location or view anything inside apps. The child sees a clear disclosure of all of this before linking, and the linked state is always visible on their phone.

Can my child just uninstall Eyezo or turn protection off?

Turning protection off, raising limits, or unlinking requires your parental PIN — and Strict Mode stays locked on for linked children. Even changing the device clock can't cheat the limits. Uninstalling is ultimately an OS-level action no app can fully block, but you'd see it immediately: summaries stop arriving.

How many children does the Family plan cover?

The Family plan includes full premium for 2 children, free. Up to 3 more children can subscribe individually and link in for the same oversight — 5 linked children maximum.

I forgot my parental PIN. Now what?

Use Forgot PIN in Parental Control settings — we verify you by email OTP and let you set a new one. The PIN protects the child's limits, so only the parent account's email can reset it.

Privacy & Data

Short version: your usage stays on your phone.

Does Eyezo upload my screen-time or app usage?

No. Per-app usage is measured and stored on your device. The only exception is explicit and consented: a linked child's daily summary (totals, not per-app detail) is shared with their parent — that's the entire point of parental control, and it's disclosed to the child before linking. Regular users' usage data never leaves the phone.

What data does my account store?

Your email, display name, settings, Eye Care Score history, points and subscription status — the minimum needed to sync your experience across devices. No location, no contacts, no ad profile. Full details in the Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account and data?

In the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account — it's immediate and permanent. Or use the account deletion page. Deletion removes your account data from our servers; on-device data goes when you uninstall.

Troubleshooting

The quick fixes for the common hiccups.

The break overlay doesn't appear on top of other apps.

Grant "Display over other apps" (Settings → Permissions in Eyezo takes you there). Without it, Android only allows notification-style reminders. On Samsung, also check that Eyezo isn't in the "sleeping apps" list.

My Eye Care Score shows no screen time.

Screen-time components need Usage Access — grant it via Settings → Permissions. The Score works without it, but with fewer inputs; for the full picture (and Screen Guard limits), Usage Access is the one to enable.

I restarted my phone — is my timer okay?

Yes. After a reboot Eyezo restarts itself and begins a fresh interval — a reboot means your eyes already had a rest, so the next break comes after a full cycle, not "within seconds of turning on."

Something else is wrong. How do I reach a human?

Settings → Feedback in the app (fastest, includes diagnostics if you allow), or email eyezo.app@gmail.com. Real messages, read by real people.
