Privacy Policy — Eyezo for Windows
This policy covers Eyezo for Windows specifically. The mobile app is covered by our main Privacy Policy and the Mac app by the Mac Privacy Policy.
The short version
- Your break history never leaves your PC. There is no upload path for it anywhere in the app.
- Eyezo never records your microphone or your screen. It only checks whether the microphone is in use and whether something is playing sound, so it can avoid interrupting a call or a video.
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising. The Windows app contains no third-party tracking or analytics software of any kind.
- An account is optional. Without one, Eyezo collects no personal data. Premium is a Microsoft Store purchase that belongs to your Microsoft account.
- If you sign in (only needed to use a Lifetime purchase on a Mac too, or to sync settings), we keep your email address, your Windows purchases (Lifetime or subscription), the devices using them and any Premium Eyezo gave you, for example through a code — nothing else. See section 3.
1. What stays only on your PC
The following never leaves your device and is never sent to us:
- Your break history — when you rested, skipped or missed a break, and the streaks calculated from it. You can export it yourself as a CSV file; that file is saved where you choose and is not sent anywhere
- Your settings — break intervals, per-app rules, sounds and preferences — unless you turn on Sync settings (section 3)
- Which apps you use — Eyezo checks the app in front to apply your break rules, but this is evaluated on your PC in the moment and is never stored or transmitted
- Where your windows are — if you turn on Glare Guard, Eyezo reads the position and size of the windows on your screen so it knows which one to keep bright. It never reads their contents, never captures the screen, and never stores or sends any of it
This data lives in your Windows user profile (the app's own data folder) and is removed when you uninstall Eyezo.
2. Microphone and sound
To avoid interrupting a call or a video, Eyezo asks Windows which apps currently have an active audio session. To be completely clear about what this does and does not mean:
- Eyezo only learns that an app is using the microphone or playing sound — never what is said or played.
- Eyezo never opens a microphone or audio stream, and therefore never records, stores, transmits or processes any audio.
- The answer is used immediately to decide whether to hold your break, and is never saved.
- Eyezo has no camera access.
3. What we collect
Without an account: nothing that identifies you. Eyezo does not send us your name, email address, a device identifier, your usage, or your purchases.
With an Eyezo account (optional). An account is only needed to use a Lifetime purchase on the other platform (one Mac) or to sync settings. If you sign in — with Google, Apple, or an email and password — we store:
- Your email address and name as given by Google or Apple — with Sign in with Apple you can hide your email, and we then receive a private relay address
- If you use an email and password: your email address, the name you enter, and your password stored only as a one-way hash (bcrypt) — never the password itself. To confirm your email or reset your password, we email you a one-time 6-digit code
- Your Windows purchases — for a Lifetime, the Microsoft Store's record of it (product and order number), so it can be linked to your account and to no one else's; for a subscription, the plan and end date as your PC's Store licence shows it, so our support can see your plan. We never receive payment details
- The devices using it — an identifier Eyezo derives from this PC (a one-way hash, so the PC's own ID is never sent) and the PC's name (for example “DESKTOP-4K2”), so you can see where Premium is active and move it
If you also turn on Sync settings (off by default), your Eyezo settings — break timing, reminders, sounds, per-app rules and similar preferences — are saved to your account so another Windows PC you sign in on gets them back. Windows and Mac keep separate copies. Turning it off stops syncing; deleting your account erases the saved copy.
Feedback: if you are signed in, Send feedback sends your message to us together with the Eyezo version and Windows version. Signed out, it opens an email in your own mail app instead, and nothing is sent unless you send that email.
We use this only to provide the Lifetime bonus, settings sync and support. It is never sold or used for advertising, and your break history is never uploaded.
4. What we do NOT collect
- Your screen contents, screenshots, or anything you type
- Camera images or video — Eyezo has no camera access
- Audio of any kind — see section 2
- Browsing history or the contents of any app or website
- Location data
- Contacts, calendar, files, or documents
- Your name, email address, or any account or device identifier — unless you choose to sign in (section 3)
- Advertising identifiers — Eyezo shows no ads and performs no tracking
- Analytics or behavioural telemetry — the Windows app has no analytics software in it
5. Free trial and purchases
Eyezo for Windows offers a free 7-day trial, then a free plan. Premium is available as a yearly or monthly subscription or a one-time Lifetime purchase. All of these — including the free trial — are handled entirely by the Microsoft Store.
- Microsoft processes any payment. We never see or receive your card details, billing address, or Microsoft account password.
- Eyezo checks what your Microsoft account owns directly on your PC, through the Microsoft Store. Without an Eyezo account, nothing about your purchases is sent to our server. If you are signed in and own Lifetime, Eyezo asks the Microsoft Store for a signed key that our server uses to confirm the purchase with Microsoft, so it can be linked to your account; your plan and its end date are also sent so our support can see it (section 3).
- Codes and Premium from Eyezo. If you redeem a code (Account → Have a code?) or we give Premium to your account directly, we keep a record of it — the code, platform, start and end date. Codes are checked only on our server; the app needs you to be signed in to use one.
- Premium belongs to your Microsoft account and works on every PC signed in with it.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Manage or cancel them at account.microsoft.com/services.
6. When Eyezo talks to the internet
Eyezo is offline-first — the timer, breaks and history all work with no connection. It makes only these requests:
- App configuration from our server — the link to the help guide and how-to videos. The request carries no account, device identifier or personal data.
- Your Eyezo account, if you signed in — Eyezo checks in with our server every few hours to keep the Lifetime bonus active on this PC and, if you turned it on, to sync settings (section 3).
- Sign-in — only when you choose to sign in: your browser opens our sign-in page on eyezo.app, which uses Google or Apple through Google Firebase Authentication, and then hands the result back to the app on your own PC. With an email and password, the app sends them directly to our server over HTTPS.
- The Microsoft Store — to show prices and handle purchases, the free trial, restores and app updates.
- YouTube — only if you open a how-to video, which plays in your browser.
All connections use encrypted HTTPS.
7. Storage & security
- Your sign-in tokens, the signed Lifetime tokens and a small record used to keep the free trial fair (the latest date the app has seen) are encrypted with Windows' own data protection (DPAPI), so only your Windows account on this PC can read them. Signing out removes the tokens.
- Your password is never stored on this PC, and our server keeps only a one-way hash of it.
- Premium is decided from records signed by the Microsoft Store or by our server, checked inside the app — never from a setting that could be edited.
- The app is distributed and signed through the Microsoft Store, so Windows can verify it has not been tampered with.
8. Third-party services
The Windows app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software. The only outside services involved are:
- Microsoft — for app distribution, purchases, the free trial and updates
- Google Firebase Authentication, Google and Apple — only if you sign in with Google or Apple, to confirm who you are
- An email delivery service — only to send the one-time code when you create an account with an email or reset your password
- YouTube — only if you open a how-to video, under Google's privacy policy
- Our own server — for the anonymous configuration request in section 6, and for your Eyezo account if you sign in
9. Your rights
- Use Eyezo anonymously — an account is optional
- Delete your data — uninstall the app, and your history and settings go with it. If you made an Eyezo account, delete it in Eyezo (Settings → Account → Delete account), or ask us at the address below; your account, the Lifetime link, the device list and any synced settings are erased.
- Manage purchases — cancel or change a subscription at account.microsoft.com/services; Microsoft handles refunds
10. Children's privacy
Eyezo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Significant changes will be noted in the app, and the “Last updated” date above will change.
