Privacy Policy — Eyezo for Mac

Applies to the Eyezo macOS app  ·  Last updated: October 8, 2026

This policy covers Eyezo for Mac specifically. The mobile app is covered by our main Privacy Policy.

The short version

  • Your break history never leaves your Mac. There is no upload path for it anywhere in the app.
  • Eyezo never records your microphone, and has no camera access at all. It only checks whether the microphone is in use, so it can avoid interrupting you mid-call.
  • No analytics, no tracking, no advertising. The Mac app contains no third-party tracking or analytics software of any kind.
  • An account is optional. Without one, Eyezo collects no personal data. Premium is an Apple purchase that belongs to your Apple Account.
  • If you sign in (only needed to use a Lifetime purchase on Windows too, or to sync your settings), we keep your email address, your Mac purchases (Lifetime or subscription), the devices using them, any Premium Eyezo gave you and — if you turn on sync — your settings. Nothing else. See section 3.

1. What stays only on your Mac

The following never leaves your device and is never sent to us:

  • Your break history — when you rested or skipped a break
  • Your Eye-Care Score, streaks and trends — all calculated locally from that history
  • Your settings — break intervals, per-app rules, theme, and preferences — unless you turn on Sync settings (section 3)
  • Which apps you use — Eyezo checks the frontmost app to apply your break rules, but this is evaluated on your Mac in the moment and is never stored or transmitted
  • Where your windows are — if you turn on Glare Guard, Eyezo reads the position and size of the windows on your screen so it knows which one to keep bright. It never reads their titles or contents, never captures the screen, and never stores or sends any of it

This data lives in your Mac's Application Support folder and is removed when you delete the app.

2. Microphone

Eyezo holds microphone permission so it knows not to interrupt you during a call or meeting. It has no camera permission and no camera access. To be completely clear about what the microphone permission does and does not mean:

  • Eyezo asks macOS a single yes/no question: “is the microphone currently in use by anything on this Mac?”
  • Eyezo never opens a microphone stream, and therefore never records, stores, transmits or processes any audio.
  • The answer is used once, immediately, to decide whether to hold your break — and is never saved.
  • This is a Premium feature. If you do not use it, Eyezo does not check at all.

3. What we collect

Without an account: nothing that identifies you. Eyezo does not send us your name, email address, a device identifier, your usage, or your purchases.

With an Eyezo account (optional). An account is only needed to use a Lifetime purchase on the other platform (one Windows PC) or to sync your settings between Macs. If you sign in — with Apple, Google, or an email and password — we store:

  • Your email address and name as given by Apple or Google — with Sign in with Apple you can hide your email, and we then receive a private relay address
  • If you use an email and password: your email address, the name you enter, and your password stored only as a one-way hash (bcrypt) — never the password itself. To confirm your email or reset your password, we email you a one-time 6-digit code
  • Your Mac purchases — Apple's signed record of what this Apple Account owns (product, transaction number, renewal or end date): a Lifetime, so it can be linked to your account and to no one else's, and a subscription, so our support can see your plan. We never receive payment details
  • The devices using it — a random identifier Eyezo creates for this Mac, and the Mac's name (for example “Shanu's MacBook Air”), so you can see where Premium is active and move it

If you also turn on Sync settings (off by default), your Eyezo settings — break timing, reminders, sounds, per-app rules and similar preferences — are saved to your account so another Mac you sign in on gets them back. Turning it off stops syncing; deleting your account erases the saved copy.

We use this only to provide the Lifetime bonus and settings sync. It is never sold or used for advertising, and your break history and score are never uploaded.

4. What we do NOT collect

  • Your screen contents, screenshots, or anything you type
  • Camera images or video — Eyezo has no camera access
  • Audio of any kind — see section 2
  • Browsing history or the contents of any app or website
  • Location data
  • Contacts, calendar, files, or documents
  • Your name, email address, or any account or device identifier — unless you choose to sign in (section 3)
  • Advertising identifiers — Eyezo shows no ads and performs no tracking
  • Analytics or behavioural telemetry — the Mac app has no analytics software in it

5. Free trial and purchases

Eyezo for Mac offers a free 7-day trial, then a free plan. Premium is available as a yearly or monthly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. All of these — including the free trial — are handled entirely by Apple's In-App Purchase system.

  • Apple processes any payment. We never see or receive your card details, billing address, or Apple ID.
  • Eyezo checks what your Apple Account owns directly on your Mac, through Apple's StoreKit. Without an account, purchase receipts are not sent to our server. If you are signed in, Apple's signed record of your purchases is sent to your account — to link a Lifetime and to show your plan to our support (section 3).
  • Premium from Eyezo. We sometimes give Premium directly to an account (for example to a reviewer, or as a goodwill gesture). We keep a record of it — platform, start and end date — and it reaches your Mac only while you are signed in.
  • Premium belongs to your Apple Account and works on every Mac signed in with it. Use Restore Purchases to bring it back after reinstalling.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period. Manage or cancel them in your App Store account settings.

6. When Eyezo talks to the internet

Eyezo is offline-first — the timer, breaks and score all work with no connection. It makes only these requests:

  • App configuration from our server — the link to the help guide and how-to videos. The request carries no account, device identifier or personal data.
  • Your Eyezo account, if you signed in — Eyezo checks in with our server about every six hours to keep the Lifetime bonus active on this Mac (section 3).
  • Apple or Google — only when you choose to sign in with them.
  • Email sign-in — if you use an email and password, the app sends them directly to our server over HTTPS.
  • Apple's App Store — through StoreKit, to show prices and handle purchases, the free trial and restores.
  • YouTube — only if you open the Start at login walkthrough, which streams a short how-to video (see section 8).

Feedback: “Request a feature” opens a new email in your own mail app. Nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself, and it then reaches us like any other email.

All connections use encrypted HTTPS.

7. Storage & security

  • Eyezo runs inside Apple's App Sandbox, which restricts it to its own data.
  • A small record used to keep the free trial fair (the latest date the app has seen) is stored in the macOS Keychain. It never leaves your Mac.
  • If you sign in, your sign-in tokens and the signed Lifetime tokens are also kept in the macOS Keychain. Signing out removes them. Your password is never stored on your Mac, and our server keeps only a one-way hash of it.
  • The app is signed by Apple, so macOS can verify it has not been tampered with.

8. Third-party services

The Mac app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software. The only outside services involved are:

  • Apple — for app distribution, In-App Purchases and the free trial
  • YouTube — only if you open the Start at login walkthrough, which plays a short how-to video. It uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and the player keeps nothing on your Mac once it closes; YouTube still receives the request, as any video player would, under Google's privacy policy
  • Our own server — for the anonymous help-link request in section 6, and for your Eyezo account if you sign in
  • Sign in with Apple / Google Sign-In (through Google Firebase Authentication) — only if you sign in with Apple or Google, to confirm who you are
  • An email delivery service — only to send the one-time code when you create an account with an email or reset your password

9. Your rights

  • Use Eyezo anonymously — an account is optional
  • Delete your data — remove the app, and your history and settings go with it. If you made an Eyezo account, delete it in Eyezo (Premium → Eyezo account → Delete account), or ask us at the address below; your account, the Lifetime link and the device list are erased.
  • Manage purchases — cancel or change a subscription in your App Store account settings; Apple handles refunds

10. Children's privacy

Eyezo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Significant changes will be noted in the app, and the “Last updated” date above will change.
